The initial purpose of MYCO was to create opportunities for holistic development through three key areas: Education, hunger/Poverty & Life Skills, skills development initiatives.
Main Programmes
Education to create a sustainable, positive and nurturing environment for children, by providing good quality education with English as the primary teaching language. We focus on local, disadvantaged preschools.
Skills Development: unemployed youth are trained in relevant skills that will improve their chances of getting access to the economy through either employment or as an entrepreneur. The adverse social effects of unemployment such as teenage pregnancies, drug & alcohol abuse, health problems and crime will be reduced by youth having sustainable employment. We currently provide training in education, IT and Fashion & Design.
Healthcare: through Primary Healthcare Clinics we provide basic healthcare solutions to the beneficiaries of our various projects and to our communities at large. The clinics provide healthcare services in the following areas: mother and child, dental, HIV/AIDS, TB and general health.
Life skills: classes to give at-risk youth self-confidence and social skills plus basic home skills like budgeting: this includes self-actualisation, self-confidence building, interview skills, communication, cultural diversity awareness, relationship building, motivation and problem solving, time management, stress management, conflict resolution, peer pressure, interview skills, gender and domestic violence sensitisation, substance abuse and HIV/AIDS awareness, goal setting, trust building and positive thinking.
Hunger: (Food insecurity) we plant a community garden and donate the harvest to a local shelter, build a school garden and use the fruits and vegetables. Act orange, and show support for kid hungry by organizing people to wear orange, the colour of hunger awareness, on the same day.
